veterans yoga

Meditation turns the mind within, reducing hypervigilance in these war veterans with PTSD.

Yoga for War Veterans, Tasmania

Military service carries the risk of physical and mental injury and illness. Many of the participants suffer from PTSD, depression, anxiety and other health issues. These classes focus on using yoga and meditation therapeutically to relieve the PTSD by strengthening the relaxation response and developing mind management skills. Very gentle, soothing and calming, with time for sharing morning tea afterwards.

Testimonials

Picture
“You see atrocities happen and they keep playing on in your mind. That's been one of the hardest things in the 14 years I’ve suffered from post-traumatic stress. It's sometimes hard to talk about but doing yoga is helping me be more vocal and this helps with the therapy.”
- Australian war veteran

“When I didn’t know yoga, I felt a lot of guilt and deep shame. I didn’t have the courage to look into other people’s eyes. Yoga has an enormous power that has helped me to take better paths and feel more love towards people. My consciousness is more at peace. And even if the war leaves scars that are difficult to heal, yoga makes you forget about the evil.”
- Former militant, Colombia
