Yoga for peace building: ColombiaDue to Ahimsa's experience in yoga for trauma recovery she was invited to assist in developing a Colombian study on yoga for PTSD in 2010. The success of the pilot study has resulted in life-changing yoga classes being provided to some 2,000 demobilised militants and victims of the protracted Colombian civil war.
In 2015 she travelled to Colombia to meet with Dunna Corporacion, the NGO that has so successfully implemented these government-endorsed yoga programs that are bringing personal peace to survivors of unthinkable atrocities and events. Ahimsa gave several presentations to enthusiastic audiences seeking solutions to their suffering. Her book, Hope: How Yoga Heals the Scars of Trauma, will be translated into Spanish and published in Colombia. |
Testimonials
"I had been seeing a counsellor for a long time, but I felt it didn't make it any better; I would leave with the same pain and anguish. For me, yoga has been very important for daily life. It allows you to relax your mind, your body and to let go of everything that torments you."

“Before the displacement, I didn't feel any pain, not even one hair. But after that I started to feel pain in my back, my knees, my shoulders, everywhere. Now it’s gone. For me, yoga was like a divine cure."

"When I didn't know yoga, I felt a lot of guilt and deep shame. I didn't have the courage to look into other people's eyes. Yoga has an enormous power that has helped me to take better paths and feel more love towards people. My consciousness is more at peace. And even if the war leaves scars that are difficult to heal, yoga makes you forget about the evil."
